Jon Newsome thought that one Leeds United player appeared a touch disoriented during the first leg of their Championship play-off semi-final against Norwich City on Sunday.

Leeds were not at their best against the Canaries at Carrow Road, but the primary plus is that they have achieved a victory that puts Daniel Farke’s side in pole position for the second leg.

The Whites struggled to capitalise on their bright moments, and it appeared like they were relying on one of their great players to deliver some magic.

Unfortunately, Crysencio Summerville was unable to make the impact that he has so often done this season.

According to Whoscored, the Dutchman made two more vital passes than any other player on the pitch. He did push Angus Gunn into a save in the second half, but it wasn’t his best performance.

Jon Newsome, speaking to BBC Radio Leeds (broadcast on December 5; 14:10), expressed fear that Summerville has nothing left in the tank.

“He looks a little bit lost at the moment, for me,” he stated.

“I don’t know the guy, I’ve never spoken to him, but his body language and mannerisms just look like he’s struggling, whether it’s with confidence or maybe he’s tired, maybe he can’t wait until the end of the season, because it’s been a long one, and he won player of the season, didn’t he, for the Championship, so he’s had a fantastic season.

“So he’s got to put his feet up, get rested, mentally get that spark, because he’s the match winner for us, he really is.”

The issue Farke may confront is how he can justify taking Summerville out of a game before the latter stages when he is the most likely to produce a moment of magic out of nowhere.

Georginio Rutter and Willy Gnonto were the first to be changed on Sunday, with Summerville following about 20 minutes later.

However, Summerville has only scored three goals in his past 15 league outings for the Whites.

You’d expect him to keep his spot on Thursday because most of his colleagues are in a similar situation right now, but there’s no denying that he’s not the same player who brought Leeds back into the automatic-promotion battle around the turn of the year.
