Leigh Bromby has weighed in on Archie Gray’s performance in Leeds United’s 1-1 draw with Coventry City on Saturday.
Archie Gray remained on the right side of the defence against the Sky Blues. In midweek, the 17-year-old faced one of the best wingers in the Championship in Jack Clarke.
Gray, on the other hand, held his own at the Stadium of Light. Grey remained at full-back as Daniel Farke was forced to use Djed Spence on the left.
Leigh Bromby praises Archie Gray following Leeds’ draw
Gray may feel he could have done better for Coventry’s equaliser. However, no one on the backline basked in glory at the time.
In fact, Leigh Bromby told BBC Radio Leeds (broadcast on 16/12; 17:45) that Gray was really impressive throughout the game.
“I think he’s outstanding,” he stated. “He’s a tremendous talent.” Can you blame the goal on him because he hasn’t put a foot wrong today? I’m not sure, but Struijk‘s body shape didn’t seem right. There was no pressure applied to the ball. So, when you look at the details, Spence‘s defending is really bad. Archie is actually in a good spot. So it can’t be attributed to him playing right-back.”
It’s amazing how dependable Whites’ teenager has become.
Obviously, Farke would prefer to move Grey away from the right-back position in an ideal world. Spence appeared to have been signed in the summer to fill that void. And there have been some encouraging signs in his early Leeds career.
However, with left-back proving problematic yet again, Spence has yet to be used on the right. Grey will most likely continue to play that role for the time being.
And you have to admit that he is still a revelation in that role. Grey has been incredible for Leeds at times. It’s hard to believe he hadn’t made his first-team debut before the season started.
And you can bet he’ll give it his all in Saturday’s big game against Ipswich Town at Elland Road.
