“Been growing”: Daniel Farke believes £4 million Leeds United player has improved significantly in training

Ilia Gruev has started the last three games for Leeds United and shone as Daniel Farke’s side maintains pressure on the top three – and the German has praised his new midfield general.

Gruev, a £4 million summer acquisition from Werder Bremen, has had to wait for his chance. There are only two starts before the turn of the year. However, two league starts in a row, with injuries in the midst of the defense.
Gruev started and played the complete 90 minutes in wins over Cardiff City and Preston. Ethan Ampadu is filling in for the injured Pascal Struijk in defense, giving Gruev an opportunity.

Gruev, who has appeared in the last two league games, received plaudits during the club’s press conference on Tuesday, which was broadcast on YouTube. Farke commended the Leeds star’s rigorous work ethic.

Both behind the scenes – as the first in and last out – and that he covers more ground than any other player on the field, teammates or opponents. “He is starting to prove his £4 million price tag. No one covers more distance.” Solid, dependable, with few possession errors, good ball skills, disciplined, professional, and a strong work ethic. If you are like this on the pitch, imagine what he is like off it.

“I’ve been humble, modest, down to earth, hardworking, and patient since the beginning. The first one in, the last one out. He has always desired extra work and is one of the most professional players I’ve ever worked with.”

Daniel Farke is impressed by Leeds star Ilia Gruev’s work ethic.

Gruev has been excellent over the last two games, winning plaudits from former Leeds boss Neil Redfearn. But, when everyone is fit, does he begin? You would expect him to return to the bench.

Glen Kamara and Ampadu have forged a nearly unbreakable relationship in the middle, and with Archie Gray on the right, Gruev will find it tough to break free in the long run. But he’s doing everything he can.
