Daniele Adani, an Italian journalist, has revealed a message he received from Brighton and Hove Albion manager Roberto de Zerbi prior to their midweek win over Ajax.
The journalist has been speaking in Italy about the message he received from De Zerbi ahead of the big Europa League clash, with his comments relayed by Tuttomercatoweb.
Adani and De Zerbi are old friends, with the former frequently going out of his way to praise and discuss his compatriot.
The pair appear to be in contact on a regular basis as De Zerbi continues to shine in England with Brighton, a club he has led to the top of the Premier League and into Europe.
They took another step forward this week with their first European victory, a 2-0 win over European giants Ajax, thanks to goals from Joao Pedro and Ansu Fati.
It was the latest step in the club’s meteoric rise under the Italian, who has established himself as one of Europe’s most promising managers during his time at the Seagulls.
He’s already been linked with bigger clubs as a result, but he’s repeatedly stated that he loves life at the Seagulls, which he demonstrated in his comments to Adani.
“12.23 yesterday afternoon, Thursday of the Europa League: a friend sends me a message,” the journalist revealed.
“I wanted to share it with you, because I have always been convinced that good generates good and special people are always needed by others too and it is right that their profound thoughts, not always but sometimes, are shared even if they arise from conversations private.”
He then played the audio from the message sent to him by the Brighton boss, which was as follows:
“Hi Lele, I’m walking around the city with a hat and glasses so no one recognizes me,” said the man in Italian.
“How nice it is to see small children walking around with their shirts and scarves on the day of the match, already anticipating the game.” I was hit with goosebumps. If you only consider that, how can you play poorly, miss a tackle, finish second, or not try a dribble with malice in your head?
“I’m 44 years old and still in this state because of football.” Hello, Lele. I wanted to let you know who understands it. You and a few other people.”
