While supporters of Atletico Mineiro hold out hope for the signing of Gustavo Scarpa, news out of Brazil indicates that the story is nearing its conclusion.
A report from earlier this week stated that the player was still in negotiations with the Tricky Trees because the team still owed him money for his signing bonus and unpaid wages before arranging his exit.
An update on the subject has been provided by journalist André Hernan, who states that Scarpa’s contract termination with Nottingham Forest is “well underway.”
According to rumors, Atlético Mineiro plans to unveil the midfield player in the “coming days” and he is expected to travel to Brazil before the end of the year.
Globo Esporte claims the Brazilian team is finalizing the signing’s “final details” while writing on the deal, but they don’t say anything further. Before the transfer becomes official, the publication confirms that Scarpa and Nottingham Forest are still in negotiations over some outstanding payments.
Club president Sérgio Coelho praised the Nottingham Forest player but made it plain they would not comment on the story when speaking to journalist Breno Galante.
“For the sake of Atlético, secrecy is necessary. In football, if there’s no secrecy, what you say goes against the club, it disrupts negotiations. I don’t tell my father, my children, because one passes it on to the other, passes it on to the other and so it goes. When it comes to negotiating with an athlete, it’s total silence.”
“A spectacular player for me. I think 100% of Brazilian clubs would like to have this player in their team. He’s an athlete who, whichever club he arrives at, will be a starter, fighting for his position. All the clubs have their doors open to him.”
