Blackburn Rovers manager Jon Dahl Tomasson was disappointed by the “strange” decision to overturn a goal against Coventry City.
Blackburn Rovers manager Jon Dahl Tomasson stated the referee had “no clue” whether or not to award a goal to his team against Coventry City. Rovers had a goal disallowed early in the second half, which the visiting manager described as a “strange situation.”
Rovers suffered their fourth consecutive Championship defeat when they were defeated 1-0 at the CBS Arena by Haji Wright‘s late header in an otherwise competitive game. In the 50th minute, Tomasson‘s men felt they had taken the lead when Andrew Moran fought his way into the area and challenged goalkeeper Ben Wilson.
After reviewing with his linesman, referee Jeremy Simpson appeared to give the goal but then ruled it out for a foul on the keeper, who appeared to have the ball in his grasp before it ended up in the back of the net.
“From my perspective, it was a strange situation,” Tomasson added. “The referee had no idea whether it was a goal or not.” The linesman did nothing, and after a brief conversation, it was a free kick. I haven’t seen it back, but then we have a huge moment, maybe one or two against one with the keeper, and we’re up 1-0, but a good performance by my players.
“We’re doing a lot of good things, but we’ve been giving away too many easy goals.” I think we were largely solid today, and we produced plenty of goal chances to win games, but we still need to score.”
“Of course, I’m disappointed with the outcome,” he added. In an away game, I observed a really good squad, amazing energy, and camaraderie against a good opponent. We were fairly solid in everything we did with the ball, and we created chances and had key moments where we probably should have done better.
“We need to be more clinical in the box to get results but I think the boys have played an excellent game so if we keep on doing this then we will get some results.”
