Leeds United winger Crysencio Summerville began 2024 in the same vein of form, adding another goal to his record, and his efforts have recently piqued the interest of Brighton in the Premier League.
Leeds‘ relegation from the Premier League in May resulted in the departure of many of the club’s important first-team players, but Daniel Farke has created a group this season around his top players.
Crysencio Summerville’s form this season has him in the running for Championship Player of the Season after scoring against Birmingham City on New Year’s Day.
Brighton is interested in Summerville.
Summerville’s outstanding performances in the second tier have placed a few clubs in the top flight on high alert ahead of the new season.
Alan Nixon suggested that Roberto De Zerbi‘s Brighton would be ready to sign him soon, knowing that Kaoru Mitoma might be on his way if the Seagulls receive a big-money bid for the Japanese winger.
For Brighton to sell one of its key assets, who is now out injured for four to six weeks and is expected to return in February, an offer of roughly £70 million is necessary.
Brighton’s refusal to buy in January gives Leeds a boost.
Leeds were never going to pay attention to the talk around Summerville in the January window, or give interested clubs the time of day with him.
This is exacerbated by The Telegraph’s revelation that the Seagulls will not be willing to do business in January anyway:
“Who could they sign with?” It’s a difficult one. Brighton are now short on wingers, but when their injured players return, they will be well-stocked.
“Hoffenheim‘s Maximilian Beier and Leeds United‘s Crysencio Summerville have both been linked but it should be noted that Brighton do not usually like to do business in January.”
Summerville will not be departing Leeds this month.
Summerville, as much as he deserves to play in the Premier League, is unlikely to leave Leeds anytime soon.
He’ll be back in the Premier League next season one way or another, but he’ll be battling tooth and nail to do it in a Leeds shirt.
Brighton would be an excellent site for him to continue his development, but he will undoubtedly believe that there is nowhere better than here right now.
