One of the two Brighton & Hove Albion fans who were stabbed in Italy before a match against Roma spoke to the BBC.
Jack Stephenson was attacked in the Italian city on Wednesday night and hospitalised for 13 hours.
Despite receiving three stitches in his leg, he managed to attend the game at the Stadio Olimpico.
He continued: “Nothing was going to stop me from getting to the match, even if it was not a good result in the end.”
Speaking to BBC South East Today, he said: “I’m glad it happened to me rather than someone else in my group, because a lot of the people I was out with were older.”
Mr Stephenson stated that he did not receive a crutch after leaving the hospital, “which was not good because I could barely walk”.
“I used social media to see if anyone had a spare crutch around by chance but luckily the hotel I was staying at had a spare one – albeit it was a child’s one,” the man stated.
As he entered the stadium on Thursday before the match, he was serenaded by other Seagulls fans who sang his name as he walked to his seat.
He appreciated the work of club staff who came to see him, as well as Italian officials and Sussex Police.
Mr Stephenson was flying home on Friday.
“All these European trips have been great and I have still enjoyed myself in Rome,” he told reporters.
Despite being unable to play football due to his ailments, Mr Stephenson plans to witness Bognor Regis v Hornchurch on Saturday and Brighton’s next game at home against Nottingham Forest on Sunday.
