Brighton is considering a move to sign a “great” new player for De Zerbi.

The Seagulls could make another wise transfer…

When it comes to transfer business, few clubs outperform Brighton & Hove Albion. The Seagulls constantly welcome new players before transforming them into the Premier League’s next best thing. Despite losing Moises Caicedo and Alexis MacAllister in the summer transfer window, Roberto De Zerbi’s side appear to be on track for another exciting season.

Brighton is now operating at a higher level than ever before, allowing them to welcome players like Barcelona youngster Ansu Fati, and they could use their newfound stature to add a similarly impressive target when the January and summer transfer windows open.

Brighton transfer updates
So far, the Seagulls‘ summer transfer window appears to be another impressive display of their transfer expertise. Joao Pedro has made a strong start after joining from Championship side Watford during the transfer window. In 13 appearances, the forward has already found the back of the net six times and assisted on one.

De Zerbi will be hoping that any future signings will follow in the footsteps of his new striker and get off to a fast start. If the Seagulls complete their move, that could include one specific target. Brighton is interested in signing Matt O’Riley, according to Football Insider. The Premier League club scouted the Celtic midfielder and were reportedly impressed by what they saw. However, they are not alone in their pursuit of O’Riley, with a number of English clubs also keeping tabs on him.

Any deal could be difficult to negotiate, given that the 22-year-old’s contract doesn’t expire until 2027 and Celtic reportedly regard him as a prized asset. When the January transfer window opens, it will be interesting to see whether Brighton will remain on the sidelines or make a move for O’Riley.

Stats for Matt O’Riley

O’Riley’s statistics have once again demonstrated his talent. The Celtic man has six goals and four assists, totaling an impressive 10 goals in 14 games across all competitions. It’s no surprise that the 22-year-old has received high praise during his time in the Scottish Premiership, including from Danish pundit Peter Kjaer, who told The Daily Record: “I’ve seen O’Riley play, he’s a top player.” I know the national coach thinks he’s fantastic as well. He mentioned him before the 2022 World Cup, so he’s been keeping an eye on him.

“He’s doing well at Celtic, and he’s still a young guy who’s getting better all the time.” He possesses many qualities that I am confident Denmark will want to employ in the future. Playing in the Champions League will almost certainly help him get a call-up.”

After attracting the attention of Brighton, O’Riley appears to be facing a major decision in the near future. He could still decide to stay at Celtic, where he has had great success. The Scottish giants will undoubtedly want to keep hold of their star player.
