Given the expectations around the club following Harry Kane’s departure, Postecoglou’s first season was certainly a success, as he infused new life into a team that had stagnated under Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte.

The Lilywhites are now looking to capitalise on their success and will use the summer transfer window to bring in Postecoglou’s style of play, as the Australian has already stated that substantial changes are required.

“We’ve had two windows, and there has been some player development, for sure, but when I say we still have a long way to go, I mean it. We can’t be there yet because it’s unrealistic to promise significant change and expect everyone to join you. It’s not for a lack of trying; it’s just that we’re going to play in a certain way.

“We’re going to train a certain way and have a certain mindset, and that’s not for everyone,” he remarked in early May.

“I have to change this squad. Because I need to assemble a squad that I believe is capable of playing football. That need exits. I can’t just keep everyone here and constantly bringing new players. So sometimes you let people go because you think ‘he’s a terrific player,’ but how will I change if I don’t do that?”

Tanguy Ndombele will quit the club, according to Football Insider, after experiencing another difficult loan term. Signed from Lyon in 2019 for a club record cost, the midfielder has never lived up to his price tag but has unquestionable talent on occasion.

When Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice met him in West Ham colours, he referred to him as a “street footballer,” explaining:

“He is on top. On the pitch, there was only one street footballer. He takes the ball wherever with tiny flicks and tricks. As if he doesn’t care. He does everything with such confidence.

“With players like that, you simply have to let them play. Allow them to go out and do anything they want. He was fantastic in our Europa League game against Lyon. “He’s a top player.”

However, he has never been able to recreate that at Tottenham, and his time in north London is quickly coming to an end, despite the fact that he still has a year left on his £200,000 per week contract with the club.

According to Football Insider, Tottenham will begin their summer by attempting to sell the midfielder “straight away” when he returns from Galatasaray, with no plans to reintegrate him into Postecoglou’s squad.

Whether a buyer can be found is another question, but with Ndombele having not appeared for the Lilywhites since January 2022, a permanent exit is likely best for all parties.
