Celtic stopper beats the deadline bell to complete the deal, and Rangers talent heads to the Ibrox departure room.

The most recent Rangers and Celtic news following today’s Scottish Premiership matches:

Motherwell defeated Rangers at home for the third time in a row at Ibrox earlier in the day, and Celtic increased their lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership with a decisive 5-2 victory over St Mirren in Paisley.

After Light Blues temporary manager Barry Ferguson suffered a terrible return to Govan with his flops slipping to a 2-1 loss, Brendan Rodgers’ Hoops are virtually guaranteed to win four straight games. Here are a few of the most recent headlines from Saturday night’s games at the two Glasgow teams.

Rangers players head to the departure lounge at Ibrox.
Goalie Jacob Pazikas and midfielder Darren McInally are the most recent Rangers academy players to sign temporary contracts, adding two more to an already expanding roster.

After stints at SPFL League Two team Stranraer and Civil Service Strollers, Scotland youth international goalie Pazikas has made his third loan move. With Gala Fairydean Rovers of the Borders, he has fallen back a level into the Lowland League.

McInally, 20, will join the relegation-threatened Cumbernauld Colts at Broadwood in order to obtain senior experience for the first time in his career.

Early in the new year, Rangers made the decision to restructure their development system, abandoning the “best-vs-best” B team games approach that had shown to be ineffective. In the first half of the season, the reserve team has only played 14 games, half of which were against other south-border academies that were independently organized.

Under fired manager Philippe Clement, four academy products—Paul Nsio, Bailey Rice, Mason Munn, and Findlay Curtis—all received promotions. Numerous more talented players, however, were judged unprepared to advance to the first team and were consequently leased out around the Scottish football hierarchy.

The Celtic stopper seals the switch by beating the deadline bell.
Joe Morrison, the goalie for Celtic B’s B squad, has signed a loan deal with Stenhousemuir of SPFL League Two, which will last until the end of the season.

The teenage goalkeeper, who has made numerous appearances for the Hoops second team in the Lowland League this season, has played in five of the team’s 2023 games. Earlier today, Morrison did not play in the Warriors’ 3-1 victory over Dumbarton.

Martin Christie, Stenny’s Head of Football Operations, commended Celtic for acting quickly to complete the agreement before the deadline of 5 p.m.

“I am thrilled that we were able to hire Joe,” he said on the club’s website. We had to act fast to find a goalkeeper after learning late yesterday night that Curtis Lyle’s injury might keep him out for a while.

We have been aware of Joe for some time since we watched him play for Celtic B, where he has maintained 15 clean sheets in 35 appearances. We think he’s a fantastic age at 20 to step in and compete with Darren (Jamieson) while Curtis is away, and we’re excited to work with him.

“We appreciate our board and Darren O’Dea at Celtic for enabling us to finish this so swiftly.”
