Chelsea against Tottenham: Preview, predictions, and lineups

Tottenham will play a midweek London derby against fierce rivals Chelsea on Thursday night.

Last November, these two sides faced off in N17, and the game marked a watershed event in Ange Postecoglou‘s debut season. Spurs haven’t performed with the same zeal since the 4-1 setback littered with red cards and devastating injuries.

Thiago Silva, who will depart the club at the end of the season, limped out at Villa Park on Saturday night and is a huge doubt for Thursday’s match.

He is one of the players who Pochettino will be missing for Tottenham’s visit. Reece James, Romeo Lavia, Ben Chilwell, Enzo Fernandez, Lesley Ugochukwu, Malo Gusto, Carney Chukwuemeka, and Wesley Fofana are all gone.

Raheem Sterling, Levi Colwill, Robert Sanchez, and Christopher Nkunku are all doubts, although each will be evaluated ahead of the game.

Spurs team news

Timo Werner is unlikely to play after sustaining a hamstring injury in the North London Derby. As a result, Spurs’ frontline could be reshuffled, with Son Heung-min starting wide left and Richarlison returning to the starting lineup.

Destin Udogie is out for the rest of the season after undergoing thigh surgery. Ben Davies should remain at left-back.

Udogie and Werner join Ryan Sessegnon, Fraser Forster, and Manor Solomon on the sidelines.

Chelsea vs Tottenham score prediction

Mauricio Pochettino
Given what happened in the reverse fixture, these two have a lot of expectations to meet. We shouldn’t expect that much mayhem on Thursday night, but the uncertainty that surrounds both clubs makes this an entertaining watch.

Chelsea consistently outperform their London opponents, and their record at Stamford Bridge in 2024 is outstanding. Tottenham don’t usually win at this stadium, and they could lose again on Thursday night.

Spurs lack rhythm and have proven to be relatively predictable in the last third. Their set-piece vulnerabilities are also clear, and the hosts will attempt to exploit them.

Prediction: Chelsea 2-1 Tottenham.
