According to Fabrizio Romano’s Daily Briefing today, Cole Palmer had substantial interest from several Premier League clubs this summer before agreeing to a deadline day move to Chelsea.
With all due respect to these clubs, the fact that West Ham and Brighton were interested demonstrates how everyone was surprised when Palmer’s major move came to Chelsea.
He was disappointed by a lack of playing time at Man City, so it made sense for him to drop down a level to secure more. Coming to Chelsea, who appeared to be well-stocked in his position and were spending feverishly, it appeared to be a case of “out of the frying pan into the fire.”
But, in the end, it was a wise move for Palmer and Chelsea, and we appear to have outwitted Brighton.
