According to Last Word on Sports, Cody Drameh is wanting to leave Leeds United this summer, joining a long list of first-team players looking to move on.
The teenager has been described as a “frustrated figure” in the past year [Leeds Live, 19 June] after struggling for first-team appearances with the Whites.
The right-back, 21, departed Elland Road on loan for the second season in a row in January, adding a Championship promotion with Luton Town to his CV after being named player of the year in his half-season with Cardiff a year earlier.
Despite the fact that colleague Rasmus Kristensen‘s loan move to Roma may open up a starting spot for him at Leeds United, Drameh is apparently part of an eight-man group of Whites players who are “actively” attempting to leave.
According to Last Word on Football, “as many as eight Leeds United senior squad members are actively looking for a move away from the club, in addition to having received and rejected bids for Wilfried Gnonto and Charlie Cresswell…
“Leeds United transfer news may be heating up as a result of a slew of players looking to leave.” Wilfried Gnonto, Max Wober, Crysencio Summerville, Jack Harrison, Illan Meslier, Cody Drameh, Pascal Struijk, and Charlie Cresswell are among those named by our source.”
Drameh has been linked with a number of clubs in recent months, with promoted Burnley still keen despite spending heavily this summer [The Athletic, 4 July].
Worry?
While Tyler Adams and Luis Sinisterra’s names are conspicuously absent from the list of agitators, it would still be a severe blow to Daniel Farke‘s intentions for the new season if all of those individuals left.
Whether it is a case of them all being open to a move at some point during this window, or a slew of potentially vital guys actively seeking to leave right now, should be obvious in the coming weeks.
The delay in the takeover and the appointment of the manager would have come as little surprise earlier this summer, but with those questions now resolved and incoming additions now on the books, it appears that things are finally looking up in West Yorkshire.
Drameh would be one of the least shocking potential exits if he is looking to leave, given he has been forced to go elsewhere for game time in each of the previous two seasons, and has established himself to be a valuable Championship performer if nothing else.
Given the failures of Kristensen and Luke Ayling last season, he certainly deserves a chance to demonstrate his second-tier expertise with the Whites now, but if he wants the Premier League, having reached it with Luton just as his father club went out, he presumably has at least the Burnley option.
Suggestions that former Farke charge from his Norwich days, full-back Sam Byram, is expected to be signed as a free agency may raise concerns for Drameh that his chance may be taken away once more.
If the manager sees Drameh as the starter, he’ll need to persuade him better than Jesse Marsch did last season, when lengthy good comments didn’t transfer into first-team opportunities.
