Cup excitement grows as Leeds finally get a home draw

We were finally taken out of the hat with a home tie against Plymouth Argyle in the fourth round, having been drawn away a record 13 times in a row. Additionally, there’s a growing sense that this could be our year to make a run at the competition’s later stages.

When we’re still in it, it’s always thrilling to watch the FA Cup draw. We’ve never played Wrexham in a competitive game, so I felt that time would come. However, that chance was eliminated very quickly. Maybe Maidstone would come our way, allowing the country to come together and wish for our defeat, but no. Instead, they will play Ipswich.

Our number didn’t seem to come out for a long time. There were a few anxious moments when clubs I didn’t want to go to were selected at home, and then there was relief when someone else was chosen to have to face them. When West Brom announced their team, it appeared clear that we would visit the Hawthorns again for our first play-off matchup because we had just been there and because of the present state of the standings. but no, it continued endlessly. I must admit that I yelled “number 12” at the screen whenever a fresh tie was about to be drawn since I was so desperate for a home tie above all else.

Finally, the FA made a mistake and my desire came true. I didn’t even know who we were playing when I leaped out of my chair to celebrate.

Of course, that was Plymouth Argyle. who, in comparison to some of the clubs we could have faced, ought to be a lot easier option, but we must keep in mind that they gave us a tough game when they visited Elland Road in November. They fought valiantly the entire game, and in the end, we had to hold on to our 2-1 victory when they scored a late goal.

However, there remains a chance for a cup run, particularly because a few more matches pitted some of the top Premier League teams against one another. How much do we want this, though? Although I’ve seen a social media remark from someone who would prefer that the 49ers win the FA Cup because we haven’t won the trophy since 1972, promotion is undoubtedly the team’s first priority!

We could win both, but only West Brom in 1930–1931 won both the FA Cup and promotion in the same season! There’s always the possibility that this will end up similar to our 1986–1987 season.

when we lost the play-off final and the FA semi-final, but at the very least, I’d prefer to get to the latter stages if we can use the team the same way we did at Peterborough.
