Daniel Farke confirms 49ers’ ambitions to strike the 2024 Leeds United deal for £15 million-rated ace

Leeds United manager Daniel Farke has confirmed that work is already underway to secure the permanent signing of Joe Rodon in 2024. The club’s January business will largely depend on finding players on loan from Premier League clubs willing to let fringe players go

The club has already tapped into that market with the spectacular signing of Joe Rodon from Tottenham this summer.

Farke confirms Rodon discusses “behind the scenes”Among the other transfer business that the club must complete this month, the long-term plan for Joe Rodon looks to be the same as the fans’: he must be signed permanently.

When asked about it at his pre-match press conference on Friday afternoon, Farke responded (via the YEP):

“Behind the scenes we’re working, there’s no doubt about this. We’re more than happy with Joe, his performances and developing.

“You see him growing more and more into a leader role. You see how much it means to him to wear this white shirt and defend this white shirt in the games. I think he’s happy to be here, happy to be an important part.

“He was crucial to our really good performances and development, so we’re more than happy. We would like him to stay for a bit longer but it’s not an urgent topic. He will stay with us for the rest of the season.”

Rodon price tag insight revealed

The amount Leeds are willing to spend for the Welsh international remains to be seen, but they were given a very clear hint back in the summer.

The Athletic said that Leeds’ initial inquiry to Spurs about signing Rodon was met with a £15 million permanent asking price.

Rodon‘s contract had two years remaining at the time, but it was now down to 18 months and he was nearing the end of his time in North London.

This means that Leeds’ initial price tag may not be sustainable in the summer of 2024, even if his form is worthy of consideration.

Rodon should not be signed on a permanent basis in January because we simply do not have the funds to do so given our current roster.

It would be a waste of our very limited finances in January to sign a player who would almost likely want to be here in the summer.

If we are promoted, it’s a given that we’ll keep Rodon, but even if we don’t, it’s something we must seek.
