Daniel Farke feels Leeds United have a player in ‘great’ form but yet to prove himself long-term

Daniel Farke has brought out the best in a number of Leeds United players this season as the Whites continue to compete for a spot in the top two, and Archie Gray is undoubtedly one of them.

Gray, who is still under the age of 18, is on track to make 50 appearances in all competitions for Leeds this season. He’s already played 34 games for the team, with 15 league games remaining.

Not only that, but there’s an FA Cup match versus Chelsea, as well as the possibility of play-offs or a cup run. It demonstrates how important he has become to the Leeds side, whether at right-back or central midfield.

The England U20 international has, of course, signed a new contract after gaining a lot of attention, and Farke was effusive in his appreciation during an interview with Sky Sports. However, it is important to note that this is simply the beginning.

Farke did mention how mature and level-headed the Leeds academy graduate has been since making his debut at the start of the season, with Gray even providing an assist against Swansea.

“Still really grounded, humble, and with solid habits. That is extremely important that you don’t get overly excited. So far so wonderful. However, quality is always determined over time, so he must persevere.

“Throughout my career, I’ve worked with some excellent young players. His family’s experience is quite beneficial, and I must congratulate the Gray family on numerous occasions. They’re doing extremely well with him.

As Jon Newsome pointed out this week, it’s easy to overlook his age when watching Gray. He is spectacular. His football IQ is comparable to guys who have played for a decade or longer.

His long-term future is at Elland Road, but Leeds will only keep him for more than two or three years if they can match his objectives, which begin with promotion to the Premier League.
