Daniel Farke is enraged after a penalty incident involving Willy Gnonto goes against Leeds United

After the defeat to West Brom, the Whites manager expressed his disappointment.

Leeds United manager Daniel Farke slammed referee Graham Scott after his team was denied a penalty in their defeat against West Bromwich Albion.

Wilfried Gnonto was pushed sprawling to the floor by Baggies defender Cédric Kipré as he was prepared to fire midway through the first half, leaving Farke enraged as his team finally lost to a third consecutive away defeat.

Willy Gnonto, highly motivated, starting for the first time [since October] in this game, Italian international one on one on the goalkeeper.” It’s a free shot. “Why should he go down and dive?” the German inquired.

“Obviously, we could see from everywhere that he was being dragged down.” And there was no intent to play the ball, and if he is hauled down, it is a penalty. You even bring up the red card because you had no intention of playing the ball.”

Grady Diangana’s goal for the Baggies minutes later proved the difference for Carlos Corberán‘s side, who are now just three points behind Leeds in the race for promotion.

Leeds have struggled on the road this season, with Wednesday night’s setback marking the sixth defeat away from Elland Road. Farke pushed his team for more consistency away from home after the game, but he still felt the penalty decision had a significant impact on the outcome.

“Obviously, it was a pivotal moment in the game, and as I mentioned, going ahead against West Brom always changes everything against a team that is so focused and concentrated on defending.” We know how difficult it is to change games in this league, and that was clearly a decisive moment.”

Leeds have a chance to bounce back to winning ways on New Year’s Day when they host Wayne Rooney’s struggling Birmingham City at Elland Road.
