According to Darren Bent, Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale would not start ahead of Guglielmo Vicario for Tottenham Hotspur.
The talkSPORT analyst stated on the radio station – via X – that while the Gunners star would be welcome in most Premier League teams, it would not be the case at Tottenham.
Ramsdale was once Arsenal’s first-choice custodian, but he is now second-choice, with Mikel Arteta preferring David Raya.
Meanwhile, Tottenham recruited Vicario in the summer after Hugo Lloris decided to leave, and the club hasn’t looked back since.
With the January transfer window approaching, Ramsdale may opt to leave Arsenal and join another team in search of regular starting opportunities.
Bent believes the Arsenal man would be a good match for most Premier League clubs, according to talkSPORT.
He did, however, agree with Andy Goldstein that he would not remove Vicario from the Spurs starting lineup.
“This is where the sticking point is,” Bent explained.
“Because when you look at the league table and think about Aaron Ramsdale, I think he can go pretty much anywhere… Not everywhere, but there are many clubs out there, and I believe he is now better than their goalkeeper.”
“Tottenham,”Goldstein said. No, I’d say.” “No, Bent,” Bent said. No, I’d say Villa’s. Martinez is an excellent goalkeeper. I’d choose Adam Pope from Newcastle.”
Bent went on to declare Ramsdale is better than the goalkeepers at Manchester United and West Ham in the clip released by talkSPORT’s X page.
Goldstein went on to say that the Arsenal goalkeeper, who earns £120,000 a week (Spotrac), “is certainly better than Chelsea‘s” keepers.
Vicario is a revelation for Tottenham as Arsenal struggles with goalkeeping – TBR View
Just a few months ago, Tottenham’s goalkeeping position was terrible. Hugo Lloris had a bad season and voiced a wish to leave. Since then, he has not appeared for the club.
Spurs and Arsenal were both linked with David Raya, but Tottenham decided against signing the Spaniard in favour of a relatively unknown (in the UK) Italian from a small Serie A side.
However, Vicario has been outstanding for Tottenham in recent months, perhaps even outperforming both Ramsdale and Raya.
Nonetheless, Ramsdale is a ‘phenomenal’ keeper, and maybe in January he will find a good solution that will result in the regular starts he deserves.
