Following his performance against Liverpool, David Seaman was immensely impressed by Tottenham Hotspur defender Pedro Porro.
On the Seaman Says Podcast, Seaman reflected on the Spaniard’s remarkable performance on Saturday.Tottenham threw everything at Liverpool in the final minutes of Saturday’s game after the Reds were reduced to nine men.
It meant that Jurgen Klopp’s team abandoned any hope of scoring a winner and sat every player behind the ball. They defended tightly, preventing Spurs from making any passes down the middle of the pitch.
At this moment, Tottenham had lost their finest player for breaking down their tight defence, James Maddison. In the final minute, however, Pedro Porro stepped up with a cunning low cross from the right side.
Joel Matip had handled everything so brilliantly that day, yet he couldn’t stop himself from leathering the ball past his own custodian.Porro was terrific for Tottenham, especially in attacking areas, according to Seaman. The £39m man has been training hard behind the scenes to improve, and it’s already paying off.
Seaman impressed with Tottenham defender Porro
“Yes, he definitely has that,” Seaman said of the 24-year-old. He’ll track back and assist his defence, but when he goes forward, you never know what he’ll do.
“I think that, if you want to call it that, is his surprise element, but it’s what gives him all that extra confidence.”Defenders don’t know what he’s going to do; they don’t know whether he’s going to cut inside or go down the outside.”
“He’s a real threat.”
Tottenham signed Porro as an offensive wing-back, and as Seaman admits, defenders are baffled by him. He’s the ideal complement to Dejan Kulusevski, who prefers to cut inside while Porro can stay on the wing.
Under Postecoglou, his attitude has been superb, and he appears to have beaten Emerson Royal this season.Although his match-winning cross has received a lot of attention, he was also outstanding when Spurs were defending.
Porro’s Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg was cheering on the touchline after thwarting a Mohamed Salah run in the second half.
