Archie Gray‘s emergence as one of the EFL’s brightest prospects this season has been a long time coming for Leeds, with his senior debut having been in the works for years.

He isn’t the only player coming through at Thorp Arch who has the potential to shine in the senior ranks, with others to come lower down the junior pyramid.

Finlay Gorman to Manchester City?

The Yorkshire Evening Post claimed this week that Manchester City had expressed serious interest in Leeds‘ 15-year-old winger Finlay Gorman.

He is now two years away from being eligible for a professional contract at Elland Road, which means that a deal for Manchester City to sign him would be through compensation, with Leeds receiving a “six-figure” fee.

Gorman recently became the youngest player in Under-18 PL history to score a brace at the age of 14.

Leeds’ grim realisation

As much as many people consider Leeds‘ academy to be one of the best in the country, especially north of Manchester, it very well sums up the club’s current situation.

Gray has shown that remaining at Elland Road and proving to be a star in the making is possible, but when the biggest club in the world comes knocking with one of the strongest academy setups, it’s difficult to say.

Leeds will take pride in being able to provide opportunities for these youngsters in the immediate future, but as long as the club is in the second tier, which is not where the 49ers want us to be long term, this will continue.

Man City are happy to sell their talented teenagers for eight-figure sums because they have so many of them.
