Didier Deschamps’ favorite player, 25 year old, has agreed to terms with AC Milan, meaning Tottenham will miss out on him.

According to renowned Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham Hotspur will miss out on outstanding 25-year-old French midfielder Youssouf Fofana of AS Monaco, who is close to joining AC Milan.

Spurs have been connected with the player for quite some time. Spurs’ interest, however, appeared to be purely exploratory, and missing out on him is unlikely to have a significant impact on the team.

Until recently, Fofana was representing Les Bleus at the Euros 2024 in Germany, when his country was eliminated in the semifinals by Spain. Didier Deschamps considered the midfielder as a useful option off the bench, despite his limited appearances.

Despite Fofana’s detractors, Deschamps has put a lot of faith in the AS Monaco midfielder, who has made 21 appearances for the national team. It’s nearly impossible for another midfielder to break into a squad that includes Aurelien Tchouameni, Eduardo Camavinga, Ngolo Kante, Adrien Rabiot, and Antonio Griezmann.
Fofana is a totally different midfielder than the others in the France squad, bringing an unbelievable level of physicality and ball-carrying ability. He usually performs best when paired with more technically gifted midfielders.

AC Milan are interested in signing the French midfielder and bringing him to the Serie A. Tottenham may have had the opportunity to get him into the Premier League, but the ship has sailed and they may need to move on.
If Spurs had been able to sign the midfielder for Postecoglou, Fofana would have brought something quite new to the middle. He and Rodrigo Bentancur may have been an ideal Tottenham team. Tottenham should have a diverse midfield. Yves Bissouma is the only truly distinctive midfielder on our current roster. Bentancur, Pape Matar Sarr, and Oliver Skipp all bring something similar to the table.
