Tottenham have rejected a proposal from Saudi-Arabian side Al-Nassr for right-back Emerson Royal, as the January transfer season comes to an end.
Tottenham Hotspur is extremely active in the January transfer market. Spurs moved quickly in the window to sign Timo Werner and Radu Dragusin, and they have also agreed on a total of ten January outgoings.
That figure could rise further during the following 11 days, as a few club players need to gain consistent first-team experience elsewhere. Emerson Royal isn’t one of them, but it hasn’t stopped his name from making headlines due to a shocking transfer move.
According to football.london, Tottenham has rejected Al-Nassr‘s proposal for the Brazilian international. The Saudi club is thought to be preparing another bid, as they aim to add to a group that currently includes Cristiano Ronaldo, Sadio Mane, Marcelo Brozovic, and Aymeric Laporte.
Johan Lange, Ange Postecoglou, and Tottenham should be able to make an easy decision if Al-Nassr makes another approach for the right-sided winger. Emerson may no longer be a regular at Tottenham following Pedro Porro‘s move to N17 last January, but he still plays a critical role for the club going forward.
The 25-year-old started the season in the team until being replaced by Porro at right-back, and he has made a total of 18 appearances for the Lilywhites in all competitions. Due to the number of injuries Postecoglou’s team has suffered, there is also an equitable split between starting and coming off the bench.
Because Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero have been sidelined, Emerson has spent a significant amount of time playing centre-back, despite the fact that it is not his natural position. After seeing the player play on the right side of a back three a few times last season, Emerson has taken on a completely new challenge as one of two centre-backs, which he has embraced with both hands and given some spectacular performances in the process.
