Everton’s £8 million star will be a’special player’ after being sold at Goodison Park.

Everton may have made a mistake by letting an £8 million star to leave for greener pastures despite his bright future.

Everton may have made a mistake by letting Ellis Simms to leave Goodison Park for Coventry City this summer since he is destined to be’special,’ but journalist Paul Brown has pinpointed the main reason why the Toffees cashed in.

The striker left as manager Sean Dyche sanctioned a slew of deals in order to reclaim more than £70 million before the transfer market closed last month.

Everton transfer news: Ellis Simms

SimmsEverton career came to an end when the Merseyside club accepted an £8 million offer from Championship side Coventry as they sought a replacement for talismanic attacker Viktor Gyokeres, who was set to join Portuguese giants Sporting.

Despite showing plenty of promise by scoring nearly 60 goals for the Toffees’ under-21 and under-18 sides, he struggled to break into Dyche‘s plans ahead of the current season.

Simms only scored once in 12 appearances, but that goal was essential in Everton’s fight for Premier League survival last season, coming in a 2-2 draw with Chelsea.

With Dominic Calvert-Lewin obviously ahead of him in the pecking order at Goodison Park, the 22-year-old moved on to greener pastures, signing a four-year contract for £25,000 per week with Coventry.

Despite being forced to sit on the bench for the Sky Blues on multiple occasions in the early stages of the season, Simms got off to a flying start with a brace in a comfortable win against Queens Park Rangers last weekend.

The frontman chose to join Coventry despite interest from Championship rivals Swansea City, Ipswich Town, and Stoke City as it became evident that he was available.

Simms is ‘going to be a wonderful player’ in the future – Paul Brown  has suggested that Everton should have been more patient with Simms because he has already demonstrated that he has a bright future ahead of him.

The journalist is aware that the former Blackpool and Sunderland man was offloaded because he would have had limited game time if he stayed at Goodison Park, with Dyche wanting a more reliable alternative in the final third of the pitch as he looks to avoid relegation.

Brown stated to GIVEMESPORT:

“I believe Ellis Simms has the potential to be a special player one day.” I believe he has the ability to be much, much better than he is because he has all of the tools he needs to improve significantly.

“It’s a shame, in a way, that Everton couldn’t be patient with him.” But I doubt he’d have gotten many chances this season. Sean Dyche does not appear to be patient enough with him, in my opinion.

“I believe they needed to upgrade the position, and they most likely did the right thing.” It’s really a shame because I believe Ellis Simms might still be a fantastic player in two, three, or four years.
