Ex-Leeds United and Leicester City player reveals ‘phenomenal’ Whites promotion battle conclusion

Leeds United presently top the Championship table, having won 12 of their past 13 league games.

Brian Deane, a former Leeds United forward, has described the Whites’ recent form as ‘phenomenal’ after they managed to reel in runaway leaders Leicester City. Enzo Maresca‘s team were 12 points clear at the top of the Championship table last month and Deane, who previously represented the Foxes during his playing days, thought the club were certainties to win promotion back to the Premier League.

However, they have been knocked from their throne by Leeds, who have won 12 of their 13 games since the turn of the year. Daniel Farke‘s team was fourth on New Year’s Day and appeared destined for a play-off berth, but after earning 37 points out of a possible 39, they are now in a title chase with eight games remaining.

The Whites appear to be timing their run perfectly, and while Leicester still have a game in hand, Farke‘s side’s rampant form could be enough to defeat their opponents.

“I can’t quite believe the [Leeds] run, to be honest,” Deane told Talksport. “Obviously, I am pleased, but the manner they are handling these results is incredible.

“I also played for Leicester, and I had them as champions at the turn of the year. But it’s been interesting to see how Leeds has recovered because there are four teams up there who can really compete for promotion.”

Of course, Leeds‘ next Easter weekend double-header against Watford and Hull City might have a significant impact on the promotion battle. Leicester City go to Bristol City before hosting Norwich City, while third-placed Ipswich Town and fourth-placed Southampton meet on Easter Monday, meaning points will be shed in the title race one way or another.
