‘Excellent’ player released by Nottingham Forest to make surprise move

Scott McKenna deserves nothing but praise during his three-year stint with Nottingham Forest, and he’s poised to make a surprise transfer.

The Reds dropped the Scotland star in the summer, with Evangelos Marinakis reportedly having a strained relationship with the player’s agent.

McKenna was totally fantastic for the majority of his career at the football club. He received Player of the Match in the Championship Play-Off Final, as well as Player of the Year in 2021/22.

The defender struggled a little to adjust to life in the Premier League, but he deserves credit for how he behaved himself as a professional at Forest.

Now, he’s finally hooked up with a club, and it’s fairly unexpected.

Scott McKenna makes a surprise move after Forest leaves.
Last week, it was reported that former Forest defender McKenna will be moving to Hull, with the Tigers eager to finalise the move.

According to Alan Nixon, The Sun’s transfer guru, the player is now expected to sign a three-year contract with Las Palmas in Spain.

The centre-back will partner up with international teammate Oliver McBurnie, who signed with the La Liga club earlier this summer.

McKenna reportedly had numerous offers from England and Scotland, but the opportunity to play abroad swayed his decision in favour of Las Palmas.

Nixon expects McKenna will sign a contract with the club later today, joining as a free agent ahead of the new season.

McKenna may excel in Spain.
McKenna lacked the one quality required for true success in the Premier League: a touch of pace.

In the Championship, he mostly played in a back three, and his lack of quickness was not emphasized, but in the Premier League, there was no hiding place.

Football in Spain is often slower, which may help McKenna settle in quickly and secure a regular spot in the club.

McKenna appeared 106 times for Forest in all competitions, scoring three goals and providing four assists.

To some extent, he could still play as a squad player at Forest, but after Marinakis‘ relationship with his agent deteriorated, there was little prospect of a contract renewal.

McKenna, now 27, will start on a Spanish adventure, and it will be interesting to watch how he fares in La Liga next season.
