Exclusive: Emerson Royal of Tottenham will be sold for £12 million; he may rejoin

Tottenham Hotspur is prepared to sanction Emerson Royal’s departure when the transfer window reopens for business.

Tottenham Hotspur are eager to cash in on Emerson Royal when the transfer window reopens in the coming weeks, with three European heavyweights interested in offering the Brazilian a way out of Hotspur Way ahead of next season, according to GIVEMESPORT sources.

Ange Postecoglou has flown a 24-man squad to Australia ahead of a post-season friendly against domestic rivals Newcastle United at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground on Wednesday, but the tactician is still planning to reshape his Spurs squad following their failure to qualify for the Champions League.

Royal, who made his 24th appearance of the season when he came off the bench in Tottenham’s comfortable win over Sheffield United on the final day of the Premier League season, is among those who could be sold after talks with technical director Johan Lange and chairman Daniel Levy.

Spurs Prepare to Sanction Royal Exit.

Postecoglou is already attempting to sign immediate replacements.
According to GMS sources, Tottenham are willing to allow Royal to take on a new challenge ahead of next season, and Postecoglou has wasted no time in looking for a new option to replace him in the squad in order to avoid being short of cover on the right side of the backline.

Spurs rejected a £21 million bid from Saudi Pro League heavyweights Al-Nassr during the winter window, which would have put the right-back alongside Cristiano Ronaldo, Sadio Mane, and Aymeric Laporte at Al-Awwal Park, but their stance has shifted, and they are now willing to sanction his departure.

Pedro Porro became one of Tottenham’s first names on the team sheet during the 2023/24 season, making 35 Premier League starts, and as a result, Royal was forced to spend long periods of time watching from the bench as his teammates fought vainly for a place in next season’s Champions League.

According to GMS sources, Serie A heavyweights Juventus and AC Milan, as well as Bundesliga powers Bayern Munich, have expressed interest in signing the 25-year-old after it became evident that he is not a key part of Postecoglou’s plans in the capital.

Royal is about to reach the final two years of his £40,000-per-week contract at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and his current employers are aware that his value will continue to decline as his contract expires, so this summer is a perfect moment to find a buyer.

Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano recently told GMS that the South American is at the top of AC Milan’s wishlist of right-back objectives, prompting the San Siro club to initiate negotiations as soon as possible to avoid being outbid by another admirer.

Lilywhites may offer Walker-Peters a route back to the boyhood club.

According to GMS sources, Tottenham could attempt to entice Southampton’s Kyle Walker-Peters back to his boyhood club if Royal leaves north London, as he would play a key role in ensuring Spurs reach the Premier League’s homegrown quota criteria for the 2024/25 season.

Postecoglou has been informed that he must attempt to bring in more home-trained talent to ensure that top-flight rules are not broken, and he is also likely to bring in an additional full-back with plenty of versatility if he wants to avoid another injury crisis impeding progress on the pitch.

Walker-Peters, who came through Tottenham’s ranks, joined Southampton in a £12 million permanent transfer from the capital club in August 2020, following a successful loan spell at St Mary’s, and is now preparing for the Championship play-off final against Leeds United at Wembley.

Royal has been on Tottenham’s books since completing a £26 million transfer from La Liga high-flyers Barcelona in the final hours of the summer window three years ago, with him deciding to stay with his current club despite interest from archrivals Arsenal.

Although Greek-Australian tactician Postecoglou has lauded the former Real Betis player as having a ‘unbelievable’ work ethic, it appears that his late cameo appearance in Sunday’s 3-0 triumph at Sheffield United may be his final competitive outing in a Lilywhites shirt.
