Exclusive: Tottenham targeting Stoke standout with £12 million bid to sign player who will storm the Premier League

Tottenham and Sheffield United are among four clubs trying to recruit a Stoke City standout ready to make the move to the Premier League, with TEAMtalk reporting that bids of approximately £12 million can seal the deal.

Stoke City had a dismal season, taking into account their pre-season ambitions, and narrowly avoided relegation with one game to spare.
The Potters made a number of changes behind the scenes, but they also spent extensively during the summer window, which led to their dissatisfaction with their final league place of 17th.

Wouter Burger, one of Stoke’s new acquisitions, has given the fans plenty to cheer about this season, becoming a fan favourite at the bet365 Stadium.

However, TEAMtalk understands that the midfielder’s outstanding performances have sparked Premier League interest in him.

According to sources, Stoke face a battle to keep 23-year-old Burger this summer, with Tottenham and two other undisclosed Premier League clubs showing interest. Sheffield United, who were relegated, are also in contention.

According to sources, the Dutchman will join the world’s top league sooner rather than later.

We are also told that a sum of roughly £12 million could be enough to conclude the transfer, making him appealing to a lot of bidders who intend to make multiple new signings. Not every new addition can be considered a blockbuster.

Burger addition will support the bigger Tottenham designs.

Spurs are planning a huge summer, with bids for Conor Gallagher and Trevoh Chalobah from Chelsea.

They are also looking to sign a new centre-forward, with Ivan Toney being considered a viable alternative. Toney’s agents are working hard to get him a move away from Brentford and up the Premier League ladder this summer.

Burger’s low asking price would allow Ange Postecoglou to acquire another player to his team without compromising his budget or squad-building objectives.

Sheffield United has also been mentioned, and they are keeping an eye on some of the Championship’s best players as they look to return to the Premier League as soon as possible.

Stoke won a significant transfer battle last summer, signing Burger from Swiss side Basel for around £4.3 million.

At the time, there was genuine interest from several higher-profile clubs other than Stoke.

However, the Championship club was viewed as the next best step in Burger’s growth. Securing a move to the EPL after only one year at Stoke suggests that his surprising decision in 2023 was prudent.
