Exit-linked Leeds player sends a two-word message as teammate terms are completed

Charlie Cresswell gives two-word message as Leeds United finalises Elland Road exit.

Exit-linked Charlie Cresswell of Leeds United has sent an emotional two-word tribute to Jack Jenkins after it was confirmed that the midfielder has departed Elland Road.

Leeds stated on their official club website (31 January) that the 21-year-old had departed West Yorkshire to join National League outfit Halifax Town.

Despite excelling in the club’s youth ranks at Thorp Arch, Jenkins struggled to break into the first-team picture at Elland Road, making only one senior appearance for the club when he made his debut in January 2021 and spending the first half of the season on loan with Scunthorpe United.

Jenkins shared numerous memories with his boyhood side throughout the years. He scored the winning goal that propelled the Under-23s to Premier League 2 championship in 2020/21, and saying goodbye to Leeds was not an easy decision, as evidenced by his parting message.

Jenkins posted on his official Instagram (31 January): “I’d want to thank all of the players and staff I’ve worked with at Leeds United over the past 16 years. I’ll never forget the incredible experiences and memories I’ve made with the club I grew up in.”

His responses were full with good luck wishes, with Cresswell keeping it short and sweet, just commenting “My brother.”

Cresswell has previously been a key member of the club’s Under-21 squad, and the two would definitely have grown close.

Similarly to Jenkins, the central defender has battled to break into the team, making only four Championship appearances this season, and many fans will wonder if Jenkins’ departure has spurred Cresswell to do the same.

He has been heavily connected with a move away from the Whites throughout January, with Phil Hay confirming to The Athletic (26 January) that he was eager to leave the club due to a lack of playing opportunities.

While Farke stated that “He definitely wants to stay,” the manager left the door open for the 21-year-old to return to the first-team fold. It will be fascinating to see if Jenkins’ departure has reinforced Cresswell‘s alleged desire to go.
