According to Fabrizio Romano, Leeds United may wait until Crysencio Summerville’s transfer situation is resolved before signing a “priority” midfielder.
Speaking to GiveMeSport (26 July), the Italian journalist stated that while adding a central midfielder is the club’s first priority following Glen Kamara’s sale to Rennes, Summerville’s fate is equally important.
The Dutchman has been linked with numerous major teams this summer after combining 31 goals and assists last season, and Romano stated that the Whites must make a decision on his future in the coming days.
He stated, “Their top priority is midfield.” They are seeking for players in that position, especially after signing Kamara. I believe it is critical for them to understand what happens with Summerville in the next week or ten days because it is such an important part of their market. Then, for sure, they can do something in midfield.”
Leeds United must avoid the lengthy Crysencio Summerville saga.
If a price of more than £35 million comes in for Summerville in the next seven to ten days that United cannot refuse, it is difficult to see the Whites standing in the way of their star winger’s departure from Elland Road.
However, Romano’s decision on the Dutchman’s move does not appear to be so simple [LeedsLive, 17 June], with few clubs having formally placed bids compared to the plethora that have expressed interest.
That suggests a saga that could run until the end of August, which is precisely the circumstance the Peacocks want to avoid following last summer’s Luis Sinisterra-shaped transfer catastrophe.
Sinisterra appeared to be staying at Elland Road after starting and scoring against Ipswich Town on August 26, but five days later threatened legal action against the club, forcing a loan move to Bournemouth.
Fortunately, Summerville has not offered anything of the such, but that doesn’t rule out the possibility of the winger attempting to force a move late in the window if one does not occur soon.
As a result, it may be in the best interests of all parties if a Summerville transfer is signed, sealed, and delivered within the next few days, allowing the Whites to put a line in the sand.
