Farke believes Leeds have a secret weapon who has yet to play for him and could help the club gain promotion

This could be a pleasant surprise for Leeds…

Leeds United are third in the Championship and ten points behind Ipswich Town in the automatic promotion spot, but they are far from a finished product aiming for an immediate return to the Premier League. Daniel Farke has at least got the Yorkshire club into the play-offs, with a comfortable eight-point lead over Hull City in seventh. However, as the January transfer window approaches, the former Norwich City manager may look to make some crucial changes in order to secure promotion.

Rasmus Kristensen and Brenden Aaronson

One of those changes could be free of charge, with Leeds reportedly looking to bring back a player who has struggled on loan elsewhere.

Leeds United transfer News
From Rodrigo to Tyler Adams, Leeds United were not fortunate enough to keep every star player after relegation from the Premier League, whether through permanent deals or loan moves. A number of those players have quickly learned that the grass isn’t always greener on the other side of the fence, and they may regret leaving Elland Road so soon after relegation. That includes Brenden Aaronson, who went on loan to Union Berlin in the summer only to struggle for minutes. Farke may now throw a lifeline to the American, who is at a crossroads.

Brenden Aaronson

According to TeamTalk, Aaronson will meet with Farke about returning to Leeds in January. The Elland Road manager is reportedly open to the midfielder’s return and believes he could be a huge boost for his squad as they prepare for a promotion push in the second half of the season.

Aaronson is reportedly considering his options and will return to Leeds on loan if he decides not to stay. Aaronson, who is still only 23 years old and has Premier League experience, could provide a significant boost to the Yorkshire side.

“Impressive” Aaronson has the potential to be a game changer for Leeds.

Though Aaronson’s game time at Union Berlin hasn’t been what he expected when he made the move, there’s no denying the American’s potential. The Leeds loanee has played just under 500 minutes and made 17 appearances in the Bundesliga for a Union Berlin side that has struggled in recent years. However, his statistics in the Premier League last season were good enough to draw some interesting names on the FBRef Player Comparison Tool.

Brenden Aaronson

“I think the most impressive thing about Aaronson was that he was all over the park, and he was closing the ball, and he was winning it and he was giving it,” Steve Nicol said on ESPN via Leeds Live. We know he’s capable of doing all of that.

“I thought the best part of his game was the way he delivered these passes and the decision-making, not just with the ball at his feet, but also choosing when to go and close down, and when to stay off.” You’re talking about a nearly complete performance, because scoring would have been the icing on the cake.”
