Farke discusses Leeds United’s defeat to Sunderland.

Daniel Farke, the manager of Leeds United, believes his team was unable to defeat Sunderland on Tuesday night because they were not good enough in front of goal.

Sunderland win

The game started slowly, which was unusual for Leeds because they had scored in the first half of their previous five games.

Leeds‘ seven-game unbeaten streak was ended by a late goal from Jobe Bellingham.

Farke dissected the game in the post-match press conference, highlighting Sunderlands defensive effort, which caused The Whites problems during the game:

Daniel Farke

“Congratulations to Sunderland on a fantastic defensive effort. In general, I’m finding it difficult to criticise my lads too harshly. Obviously, we had a difficult away game today. We dominated this game for long stretches. We had nearly 60% possession, and more than 70% in the second half. I couldn’t find anything cutting-edge today. We had so many chances in the past, but we weren’t tidy or sharp enough on the final pass tonight.”

“They attempted to park the bus and launch a counter-attack.” They had bodies to block whenever we shot. One of those days when you don’t find the tidiness or sharpness to be present. We did not win. It was difficult tonight because they were seated so deeply. Summerville through, if he goes down, it’s a red card, and we wait for the goal. I like his attitude, but staying on his feet was probably the wrong decision.”

On Tuesday night, the German coach was unable to pinpoint a reason for his team’s lack of cutting edge in front of goal:

“In the first half, we gave up two chances to set-pieces.” We were pleased with how we defended in the second half. Everything was successfully defended. I’m having difficulty blaming my teammates for this goal. Seven players defend the cross in our box, and Pritchard somehow bounces the ball back in for them to score.

We didn’t find this moment to score today, which was crucial.”
