Cedric Anselin believes Norwich City missed a trick by failing to take a lead into the second leg of their play-off match against an out-of-form Leeds United.
Leeds have only won one of their previous six games coming into last week’s meeting at Carrow Road, which ended in a boring goalless draw.
The battle was still in the balance coming into Thursday’s (16 May) return leg, but Leeds won 4-0.
Former Norwich player Anselin told BBC Radio Norfolk after the game [16 May, 10:25pm]: “David Wagner has some answers to give to the press and possibly the fans.
“On Sunday, Norwich played their first leg at home. You need to win. Leeds were not in excellent form. Norwich just crumbled.
Leeds United travelling to Wembley
Last weekend’s draw at Carrow Road was disappointing, but it guaranteed Leeds remained favourites to advance.
Nonetheless, no one expected the second leg to be as comfortable as it was, with United getting great value for their four-goal triumph.
Indeed, it could have easily been six or seven against a genuinely awful Norwich side on the night.
The Canaries did “crumble” on the surface, but this was simply the league standings reflecting itself.
While Leeds have been underperforming of late, they finished 17 points ahead of Norwich in the regular season.
Daniel Farke’s side will now sit back and wait to know who they will meet at Wembley – either Southampton or West Brom.
It makes little difference who they face based on their second-leg performance.
In unrelated Leeds United news, Chris Sutton made a “ridiculous” remark about a Whites player ahead of their match against Norwich.
