Giovani Lo Celso gives his assessment on who is the finest player at Tottenham

Lo Celso provides his assessment on who is the finest player at Tottenham, while Romero looks to grow. Two of Tottenham’s Argentines have been answering questions from supporters and providing their perspectives on problems within the club.

Giovani Lo Celso feels Cristian Romero is Tottenham Hotspur‘s best player, even though the centre-back admits he still has a lot to learn as a leader.

Both Argentines are hoping to succeed this season under Ange Postecoglou, with Romero appointed as one of Tottenham‘s vice-captains. In a feature for the club’s YouTube page, the duo answered questions from fans, with Lo Celso being asked who he thought was Tottenham‘s finest player.

“For me, it’s Cristian Romero. I’ve said that since the day he arrived, and I will continue to say it. “I was surprised from the first day, first in the national team and then here at the club,” said the 27-year-old World Cup champion. “The way he integrated and performed here at the club continues to surprise me. He deserves everything he has accomplished here and everything he will receive.”

The two Argentines are following in the footsteps of other renowned compatriots, like the trailblazing Ossie Ardiles and Ricky Villa, who joined Tottenham after winning the 1978 World Cup. Maradona has also worn Spurs colours, appearing for the club in Ardiles’ testimonial versus Inter Milan at a full White Hart Lane in 1986. In 2017, the great Argentine paid a visit to Wembley Stadium to witness Tottenham’s Premier League victory over Liverpool.

Lo Celso hopes that the club’s current Argentine players will replicate their predecessors’ success in the coming years.

“I believe that the club has really wonderful memories of Ardiles and Villa, as well as what happened with Maradona, that game he played, and how they remained very identified with him. Then, when he visits the club, they maintain those wonderful memories,” stated the midfielder.

“And then the previous players who came here recently, I hope that one day, both of us and Alejo [Veliz], the three Argentineans here, can follow in their footsteps and try to leave our names in the club’s history.” I hope it happens, and we are certainly working towards it.

Romero answered a question about who played the worse music in the locker room, and he was ready to criticise a few of his teammates.

Bissouma‘s is horrible. Maddison and Emerson are bad. “They have very different tastes,” he explained. “Surely they think the same of us, but I’ll name those three because they played horrible music in the locker room. Every song is worse than the previous one. I prefer to use headphones and listen to my own music.”

Another question posed to the players was about their favourite moment with captain Son Heung-min, and Lo Celso chose that one.

“For me, an image and a memory that always comes to mind was when we played in the Champions League as visitors and I scored my first goal,” said the Uruguayan forward. “I recall taking a photo with Sonny following the celebration. I think that was a terrific moment for me, and I’ve had a lot more excellent ones with Sonny. He’s a fantastic player and a great person.

“I believe that every time we see him smile, it brightens our day because he is never unhappy or upset. That, I believe, is quite significant.

While Son was away at the Asian Cup, Romero led the team in a 2-2 draw at Manchester United, and the 25-year-old believes he is still learning in the position.

“When I first learned about it, it came as a surprise to me. I am grateful to the club and the coach for entrusting me with this responsibility. It’s quite essential to me. “I take it with an incredible amount of responsibility,” stated the defender.

“I have a lot to learn, and I’ve had some fantastic captains in my short career. It was a beautiful and emotional time for me. “I enjoy it every day.”
