Graham Smyth has revealed that Leeds United’s wages have increased “significantly” since the club issued its latest reports.
The Yorkshire Evening Post journalist tweeted a document from the Whites’ financial proposal for 2022/23, which showed that the club’s wages increased from £106.5 million in 2021/22 to £129.4 million the next year.
He also highlighted the expense of managers leaving Elland Road after it was found that redundancies and ex-gratia payments accounted for £9.5 million in payroll costs.
Leeds United suffered the consequences of poor managerial decisions.
It’s not surprising that Leeds paid a large sum to former managers after Jesse Marsch, Javi Gracia, and Sam Allardyce all left the club last season.
Payments of this type were substantially smaller last year, at £3.5 million, after Marcelo Bielsa was removed of his duties at Elland Road.
The Whites were required to pay a hefty sum in 2023 for making poor managerial decisions that contributed to their eventual relegation from the Premier League.
They shouldn’t have such troubles this year, since Daniel Farke‘s employment is relatively secure after a strong season, with his team vying for an immediate return to the first flight.
However, the German will be eager to complete the deal within the next two weeks to eliminate suspicion about his position in West Yorkshire.
