Hammers connected with a fast winger AGAIN.
West Ham United are apparently monitoring Wilfried Gnonto’s situation at Leeds United. Gnonto‘s transfer was much rumoured last summer, but he chose to stay with the Championship club.
Despite Leeds rejecting Everton‘s £25 million deal for the midfielder, he has since dropped down the pecking order, appearing only 20 times in the team’s first 26 league games. West Ham were heavily connected with the Italian during the summer transfer window, when he was valued at £40 million.
Gnonto joined for Leeds in the summer of 2023, signing from FC Zurich for £4 million.
It’s reasonable to expect the Yorkshire club to receive far less than the asking price for the player. He is still an attacker with a lot of potential, but that is about it. I can’t image Hammers boss David Moyes agreeing to a transfer for Gnonto, although West Ham are desperate for effective wide forwards.
Only last season was the Italian sprinter regarded as one of Europe‘s brightest prospects. I’m confident that the proper manager will get the youngster back on track, but I doubt West Ham is the location to do so. At the moment, Ajax’s Steven Bergwijn is clearly the better option.
