Harry Kane explains why he chose Bayern Munich over Tottenham Hotspur.

When Harry Kane arrived at Bayern Munich from Tottenham this summer, he was blown away by the fan culture in Germany, characterising his new fans as some of the most passionate in the world.

The England captain joined Bayern Munich from Tottenham Hotspur in a blockbuster deal in August and has made a flying start to this new chapter of his career.

The 30-year-old has scored 21 goals in his first 16 outings, with 17 of those coming in 11 Bundesliga games, as he adapts quickly to his new team.

Kane has played on enormous stages previously for Spurs and England, but he believes arriving at the Allianz Arena was a unique experience, praising the German fans’ passion.

‘It was incredible to make my debut,’ Kane said to FourFourTwo. ‘The mood there was something exceptional, and I’ve subsequently understood it wasn’t a one-time occurrence. German football supporters are among the most fervent I’ve seen.

‘I recall waiting for the show to begin, hearing the drums and admiring all the banners and flags. It made me shiver. From the start, the fan culture in Germany blew me away.

‘Those first few days seemed like I was starting a new school. Putting a face to a name, introducing oneself, and everyone asking how you’re doing. I’d met several of the lads before, so it was great to get to know them all personally. It seemed a little weird, but I was eager to get started.’

Whether Kane would join Bayern Munich or Manchester United, or even quit Tottenham, appeared uncertain during the summer, but he claims he made his feelings clear at the end of last season.

He informed his supervisors in north London of his intention to depart, then waited patiently for the move to take place.

‘Once the season was over, I spoke with Spurs and stated that I felt it was time to move on and push myself as far as I could,’ he explained.

‘I then went away on holiday and that’s when negotiations started advancing. I had faith that the teams would finally reach an accord.’

During the current international break, Kane is in the England squad for games against Malta and North Macedonia, and he will shortly return to his motherland with his new club.

Bayern Munich will face Manchester United in the Champions League at Old Trafford on December 12, in what could be a pivotal encounter for the Red Devils as they attempt to advance from the group stage.
