Ange Postecoglou has picked the Tottenham Hotspur player he believed was exceptional in Tuesday night’s draw against West Ham United.
Spurs squandered the opportunity to climb up to fourth place in the Premier League. Kurt Zouma scored from a set piece before the break, cancelling out Brennan Johnson‘s early goal.
It was a hard-fought match that became frenzied in the last minutes as both teams pressed for the win. However, they both lacked quality in the final third of the London Stadium.
Zouma was selected player of the match because he helped the Hammers deal with Tottenham’s attacking threat.
Ange Postecoglou appears to have been more interested in another player.
Ange Postecoglou said Tottenham player was superb against West Ham.
After the game, the Tottenham manager told Match of the Day that he was quite impressed by Yves Bissouma.
“I thought he was great. Yves handled the defensive duties, which were always going to be vital today. The lads put out a good overall effort. “It’s a difficult place to come,” he explained.
“There are still a lot of games to go. I would be very surprised if all games aren’t close. Everyone’s battling for something. We need to maintain our levels.”
Returning to his finest form
Bissouma was obviously willing to get involved, which was especially vital given West Ham’s desire to damage Spurs on the counterattack.
He had two interceptions, according to Whoscored. No one on either side accomplished more. And he was so certain in his possession.
Bissouma had the most completed passes, connecting with a teammate 91 times out of 95. Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven were the only players in the £25 million Mali international’s 30-man squad.
Bissouma has received some criticism recently following an impressive start to the season in North London.
However, against the Irons, Postecoglou definitely felt like he was back to his old self.
