“I call that success” – Manager talks about big summer Brighton deal, says move ‘doesn’t hurt’ him.

Albert Puig, former Barcelona youth team manager, told Jijantes FC that he is delighted with Ansu Fati’s decision to join Brighton & Hove Albion.

Barcelona manager Xavi Hernández used the 21-year-old as a substitute in the first three games of this season. In need of regular game time, the winger joined the Seagulls on loan at the end of the previous transfer window.

Puig spent over a decade in various roles at the Catalan club between 2001 and 2014, and he has now explained why the Barcelona-owned player’s temporary move to Brighton is a success.

“It doesn’t bother me that Ansu left. He is a professional; he does not need to stay with Barça to claim success. “I consider Ansu’s success to be playing for Brighton at the age of 20,” he said.

The Spain international has played 595 minutes in 13 games for Brighton, scoring four goals and providing an assist. Last weekend, he made his Premier League debut in his team’s 1-1 draw with Sheffield United.

Fati came through the youth system of the La Liga giants and made his first team debut in 2019 at the age of 16. Puig believes that his compatriot should be given more time to develop.

“If Ansu is no longer playing in the elite at 25, we can talk about it, but at 20, playing in the Premier League is extremely difficult.” We are in too much of a hurry; we must wait and allow the young people to mature, even if they are not present,” Puig explained.
