Cody Gakpo has been with Liverpool for just over a year, and to say he has had a successful year would be an understatement.
He played a major role in a 7-0 victory over Manchester United this time last year, and now he has the Reds at the top of the league, having just won his first trophy with the club.
Gakpo has adjusted beautifully to life on Merseyside, but in an interview with Sky Sports, he admits that one aspect of the Reds has surprised him.
Indeed, Gakpo claims that while he thought Liverpool‘s fans were fantastic, he didn’t realise how amazing they truly are until he came to play for the club.
Cody Gakpo is startled by Liverpool fans
The Dutchman gave his thoughts on the support and how they surprised him when he arrived.
“I didn’t know it was that special,” Gakpo said.
“You know it’s a big club with special history and really special fans but to really experience that is way more special than you can ever think of.”
Incredible support.
We completely understand why Gakpo was stunned by the Liverpool crowd.
Everyone knows how fantastic the Reds’ fans are, but there’s a big difference between hearing it on TV and being there in person.
There’s something special about Anfield during a big game that can’t be recreated anywhere else, and while Gakpo has played in front of large crowds before, nothing compares to playing in front of the Anfield fans.
