Tottenham Hotspur beat Barcelona to sign Lucas Bergvall. Spurs signed the 18-year old from Swedish side Djurgårdens IF earlier this month.
He will join the club in the summer.
Prior to agreeing to a deal with Ange Postecoglou’s side, the midfielder traveled to Barcelona to meet with them and inspect their facilities.
The Spanish press later accused him of exploiting the La Liga club to obtain a bigger offer from Tottenham. Former Barcelona scout Bojan Krkić Sr criticized Bergvall for allegedly having his mother and girlfriend influence his decision to join Spurs.
Speaking to Sportbladet, the Sweden international stated unequivocally that he is not concerned with these rumors.
“I don’t spend much time on it. They can write and say whatever they want. I know what’s correct. “I try not to put too much energy into it,” he explained.
When questioned if it could be due to ‘bitterness’ over Barca’s failure to gain his services, Bergvall responded,
“That is certainly possible. I do not know.”
The teenager will represent Djurgårdens IF until he travels to Tottenham in the summer. He’s signed a five-year contract with the Premier League club and is relieved that his future is now secured.
“There was a lot going on in my head in general, including a lot of speculation on social media. Many people wondered, but it’s wonderful that everything has settled down and that I can focus just on Djurgården,” the Swede said.
“It’s nice to spend the last six months with Djurgården and hopefully win a cup.
” I try not to think too much about injuries; if one occurs, it happens.”
The player was asked if he was still in communication with Tottenham. Responding, he stated,
“They strive to keep their distance. It’s evident that we’re in contact, and they’re working to improve everything around me, but not football.”
Bergvall has indicated that his family would accompany him when he goes to London.
