Daniel Farke has issued an injury update for Dan James following Leeds United’s 1-0 victory over Norwich City.
For the first time this season, the Whites won the Championship in four straight games as Patrick Bamford headed home a cross from James to continue his outstanding form in front of goal.
James is perhaps in the finest form of his career, with 10 goals and six assists in the Championship this season, so this setback comes at the worst possible time for both him and Leeds.
The 26-year-old went down for treatment in the first half and played the final few minutes before being replaced by Jaidon Anthony at halftime.
Farke stated in his post-match press conference that he hopes to be out for only a short time, but has already ruled him out of Saturday’s FA Cup encounter against Plymouth Argyle.
Farke rules James out of Plymouth.
He stated: “James hip flexor. I hope it isn’t too bad. I will miss the cup game. I hope he returns shortly after that. “I need him.”
Fortunately, Leeds have a nine-day league break with the FA Cup coming up this weekend, and he was likely to be rested anyway.
Wilfried Gnonto should be able to return on Saturday, and Anthony will be aiming for another start in the cup, so Leeds should be alright without him.
However, James‘ quality this season has made him nearly unstoppable, and a return of 16 goal contributions demonstrates how much he has progressed since returning from Fulham.
At the same time, last night demonstrated how rapidly things can change on the injury front, as Archie Gray had to limp off injured in added time in the second half.
