On Sunday, Brighton & Hove Albion will host Fulham at the American Express Stadium.
Before Fulham’s Premier League matchup with Brighton, Marco Silva claimed he was eager for more success at Craven Cottage and that signing a new contract was a “easy decision.”
Silva reportedly declined a summer offer from Saudi Arabia and this week inked new contract to lead Fulham until 2026.
Before Fulham’s match against Brighton on Sunday, Silva discussed his choice to sign a new deal, saying: “It was an easy one.”
“We had been discussing it for a while, so it was a decision that both the club and I were glad to make. It was an easy and straightforward choice.
This football team has a great sense of community. As aspirational individuals, I have high expectations for myself, my profession, and my football team. I also want to be more competitive. We can succeed if we are tough and ambitious.
This season, Brighton, Fulham’s opponents in the Europa League, defeated Ajax 2-0 on Thursday to earn their first victory in the competition.
Silva praised manager Roberto De Zerbi’s impact since taking over in September 2022 and the Seagulls‘ “astonishing” ascent in previous seasons.
“With what they have been achieving behind the scenes, it has been an incredible journey,” Silva remarked.
“They make incredibly crucial judgments in everything they do, which is huge, and their fans are naturally proud. They won for the first time in Europe last night, which is a huge step forward for them.
“They deserve it, not just for their fantastic season last year; they emerged while I was at Watford and have been developing as a team ever since. They set a great example and should be given the credit,” the manager said.
“Roberto has been outstanding. He came in with a distinct style and accomplished fantastic things. Because of the talented players on the attack line who can make a difference in one-on-one scenarios, he has a distinct style of play that is hard to stop.
