Willy Gnonto is likely to sign a new contract with Leeds United soon, but with deadline day approaching, the Italian international could emerge as a late target for West Ham United today.
Gnonto, 20, has struggled this season. After refusing to play in three games in August in an attempt to push his way out of Elland Road, the winger has only scored once in 24 games. But now he might sign a new contract.
According to Fabrizio Romano, a deal is nearing completion and might be revealed within the next few hours or days. Gnonto had previously been connected with West Ham, Fulham, and new Italian sides.
However, the most recent sources indicate that Gnonto will stay. However, nothing has been officially stated or confirmed. Dean Jones now claims that West Ham could sign Gnonto on the final day of the transfer window.
West Ham are interested in signing Al-Ittihad’s Jota and FC Nordsjaelland winger Ibrahim Osman, but both transactions are proving more difficult as the deadline approaches. Plan C is Gnonto.
“Osman and Jota’s deals have fallen through. It has been a tough week. They initially expected both players to sign. Now they have to consider not signing anyone.
“I am informed they do not want to panic. Don’t want to take on a player that isn’t already on their radar. A situation like Gnonto is appealing, but it hasn’t evolved yet,” he told GMS.
West Ham could target Willy Gnonto on deadline day.
Gnonto is a tremendous talent, and he needs the opportunity to display it. He is not receiving that at the moment in Leeds. However, Leeds believe in him after he established himself in the Premier League last season.
If Gnonto feels the need to go, West Ham would be an excellent choice for him. However, it is likely that Gnonto will sign a new contract before considering a move again in the summer.
