‘I was really critical,’ says Daniel Farke of his tirade in the Leeds United dressing room

Leeds United lost back-to-back games for the first time under Daniel Farke‘s leadership, part of a longer run of five games that produced fewer points than the same period in August.

The Leeds manager confesses he had it with his players after the Deepdale debacle on Boxing Day, especially given their lack of application in Lancashire. West Bromwich Albion were scarcely put to the sword in the reaction of the Leeds players three days later, but Farke did find more than enough reasons for optimism, despite the scoreline.

“Each and every game is different,” Farke said. “I was very critical of myself after the Preston game.” We could blame the red card, a bad pitch, unlucky situations, and the fact that, yes, in the 90th minute, in underload, we conceded a ball into the top corner, a dream goal.

“I had the impression that we were a little sloppy in our offensive movements in this game (Preston).” So I was extremely critical of our effort put into this game internally.

“No, not today. So we made a significant shift today, the workload was good, and many, many things went well. Just the cutting edge in the opponent’s box, to be merciless when it comes to getting the shot away by bringing the body between the ball and the opponent.

“This is where we are definitely critical, but not overly so.” In comparison to Preston, our game, as well as what we invested in our approach, were far superior today.

“Although I’m disappointed we lost this game, and it’s more like back-to-back losses for the first time this season, I’m much, much more content with our performance today than I was with Preston, to be honest.” The message from this game is unmistakably different.”
