Antonin Barak, a Fiorentina midfielder, has claimed he was irritated by Napoli’s choice to recruit Tottenham misfit Tanguy Ndombele over him last season.
Barak has been conversing with Diretta.Fiorentina relayed it in Italy. It discusses different facets of his career thus far, as well as a failed move to Napoli in 2022.
The midfielder had been on the verge of signing the eventual Italian champions that summer, but his move fell through when they went for the Tottenham player instead.
Ndombele eventually arrived on loan that summer, as Tottenham once again sent him out on loan because he was not in their plans.
He did not prove to be a wise signing for Luciano Spalletit’s side, however, playing only a minor role as they went on to win Serie A.
The deal was widely regarded as a failure, and the player was dubbed a flop, which likely added to Barak’s dissatisfaction with his own failed move.
“After the 2021/2022 season I was very close, it was practically already done,” he told reporters.
“However, things became complicated in the end, and we were unable to close in June, and Napoli delayed the sale of Fabián Ruiz, in whose place I should have arrived.”
“In the end, Napoli received a nearly free offer to sign midfielder Ndombele from Tottenham.”
“I was very angry at the time, but in hindsight I don’t blame them at all for choosing that path.”
