Ian Harte responds to a Leeds United supporter who teased out-on-loan Luke Ayling on Twitter

Ian Harte, a Leeds United icon, took to Twitter over the weekend to compliment his client Jack Clarke’s performance while mocking Luke Ayling. Now he’s retaliated on an irate Leeds fan.

Ayling, 32, started his third game for Middlesbrough on Sunday, a North East duel against Sunderland. The North East derby also included Sam Greenwood, Leo Hjelde, and Jonny Howson. It finished 1-1.

Clarke has been on fire, and there is little doubt that he is currently one of the division’s top wingers. He assisted Nazariy Rusyn‘s equaliser, which went under goalkeeper Tom Glover.

Harte has entered the field of representation and is Clarke’s agent, as well as Sunderland teammate and former Leeds player Niall Huggins. Lee Bowyer and Jonathan Woodgate both appear in Old Elland Road.

Initially, Harte tormented Ayling, with Clarke passing the out-on-loan Leeds player several times during the encounter. Then he justified his Tweet, claiming Clarke does it to most right-backs in the Championship.

But Harte didn’t leave it there. A Leeds fan then not only chastised Harte for his tweet on Ayling, but also questioned Harte’s footballing skills – a player regarded as an Elland Road hero.

Harte helped Leeds reach the Champions League semi-finals in 2000-01, scoring 56 goals in 283 games. He is well-known for his set-piece expertise and, of course, his penalty-taking ability.

So Harte hit back at a Leeds supporter who insulted his football career, implying that he was the weak link in David O’Leary‘s Leeds team. Harte reminded everyone of his personal football successes.
