Ian Wright has reacted to what Sean Dyche stated regarding the issue in Saturday’s match between Everton and Tottenham Hotspur.
As he watched his club lose 2-1 to Ange Postecoglou‘s team, the Toffees boss believed Dominic Calvert-Lewin‘s disallowed goal should have stood.
The referee, however, ruled that Andre Gomes had committed a foul in the build-up and thus did not allow the goal to stand.
Wright said on Premier League Productions (23 December, 20:41): “I think Sean Dyche was right.” To show fight while the team is behind 2-0. I believe they were unfortunate. It hurts to have a perfectly excellent goal disallowed.”

The allegation by the Toffees manager that VAR over-refereed the moment, overturning the on-field judgement based on slight contact, represents a rising worry about the frequency of soft decisions affecting the game.
Despite the setback, Everton should draw positives from the game, and Dyche has rightfully praised his players for their fantastic performance in generating chances and offering a threat on the counter.
After a poor first 20 minutes, the Toffees showed grit, tactical understanding, and the ability to cause problems for the hosts.
There were a few players who did not live up to expectations, but this does not mean Dyche‘s strategy was useless.
Hopefully, his players can recover and be fully focused when they face Manchester City on December 27th, as it will be a difficult game to win.
