Tottenham Hotspur star James Maddison and Brentford forward Neal Maupay battled on the pitch and have continued to trade insults off it since Wednesday’s heated match in North London.
Maupay scored at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and celebrated by replicating Maddison‘s well-known darts celebration, prompting the two to exchange words.
But Maddison had the last laugh, as Spurs responded with three quick second-half goals, making Ivan Toney‘s strike a small consolation in their 3-2 victory.
After the game, Maddison told TNT Sports: “I just told him that he probably hasn’t scored enough goals in the last few years to have his own celebration, so he had to copy mine.”
But Maupay fired back on Instagram, writing, “Went a little early with that one. I’m disappointed we didn’t win. In my career, I’ve scored more goals and been relegated less times than James Madison. “We go again Monday, Bees.”
Ian Wright’s amusing suggestion to Maupay.
Former Arsenal forward Ian Wright was famed for winding up opposition defenders, and he had some excellent advise for Maupay.
“He was correct in his statement there. He left too early. “I would never have gone that early,” Wright admitted on Match of the Day.
“They’ve lost 23 points from winning positions; you have to wait, dude, before you can start going for him.
“I thought Maddison‘s comeback was good but that one [from Maupay] is a bit deeper and nasty.”
