In light of captain Heung-min Son’s injury worry, Ange Postecoglou of Tottenham has not completely ruled out the prospect of rookie midfielder Mikey Moore starting his debut Premier League game on Sunday against Manchester United.
Son is a vital member of the Spurs team, but his participation is in question due to a hamstring injury. Postecoglou is still upbeat about Son’s recuperation, saying the attacker is excited to practice on Saturday but that a final decision won’t be made until closer to the match.
Tottenham’s attacking options are limited due to the probable absence of Son, Wilson Odobert, and Richarlison. Aware of the team’s limited options up forward, Postecoglou proposed that Moore may be added to the mix along with players like Timo Werner and Dejan Kulusevski. Prior to the Manchester United match, the Australian coach made the following statement, which TEAMtalk cited:
“It’s possible for Timo and Mikey to enter the picture. We have possibilities there with Deki Kulusevski, who can also play wide, but first we’ll see how Sonny is.”
Moore is only 17 years old, so being named to the matchday squad would be a big step forward for him. With just 12 U18 Premier League games played last season, the England U17 international scored 14 goals and provided 8 assists, causing a stir in the Tottenham young ranks. Postecoglou saw his good achievements at the close of the previous season, and he was invited to train with the first squad. Moore might be poised for a breakthrough at Old Trafford if he is chosen, providing Spurs with an additional offensive dimension.
Given that Tottenham is dealing with serious injuries, the young midfielder’s possible participation might give the team a new lease on life as they attempt to defeat Manchester United.
